Selecting Your Farm

Searching the internet, scouring the weekend real-estate pages or finding a good agent is no way to find the right farm. Barley Mid North SA

It starts with a great idea, “let’s go farming!”  So now where do you go?

If you get the selection right, the rest can follow with a little help, if you don’t ….. it won’t!

And don’t forget the house!

If you plan to live on your farm, you’ll spend more time inside then out and remember the kitchen is equally as important as the John Deere but can often struggle to compete for funds.

You will receive help with and be shown simple techniques that will allow you to:

  • Build a personal profile that describes what features the district, home and farm will require to achieve your farming aspirations. It will include areas such as your realistic time available, what types of farming activities interest you, your attitude to risk (commercial and environmental). The personal profile can then be used to allow certain locations to rise or fall in their attractiveness and suitability.
  • Use that profile to build a picture of what your farm will need to look like and using an index that is automatically generated, you will be able to compare a number of possible farms based on the priorities you have identified. You will be shown how generate a check list that will help you with property inspections that fit your profile.
  • Be shown how to identify the inevitable compromises because the “perfect farm” simply does not exist. A continuous search for the holy grail of farms will guarantee that you never purchase one. By using the techniques demonstrated,  you will be shown how to identify features that are absolute deal breakers and how to incorporate permissible compromises.
  • After you have built your profiles you can be begin to search for properties with confidence. This is where you begin to search the internet, buy the weekend papers and find that “Good Agent”.  And they do exist!!

HomesteadHaving made it this far, you will then be shown another process on how to asses fair value.

The processes are flexible and adaptable and you can change the profiles by changing the back ground assumptions.

If your ideas about your farm change the process can adapt to follow you.
